Sparta Racing is Moving to Australia

We are very excited to announce Sparta Racing is on the move to Victoria, Australia!

We are incredibly excited to share with you that we have been given the opportunity to train at Cranbourne Training Complex and as a result we have secured a lease on a fantastic 40 horse barn adjacent to the track.

We have been considering this move for many years and when presented with such an exciting opportunity we jumped at the chance to be involved in one of the most exciting Racing jurisdictions in the world. We have always admired how passionate Australia is about horse racing and the opportunities for all level of horses is second to none.

Racing is going from strength to strength in Victoria and the prizemoney even at low level racing midweek is getting stronger every season. The ability to place horses in the right races to fulfil their potential is made easier with the number of races available, as well as the added advantage of free nominations. The advantage of free nominations is that it gives us the ability to nominate in a number of races and be able to pick the appropriate race that gives each horse their best advantage.

We also are excited to move to an area that has such an amazing pool of world class jockeys, many of which travel to Cranbourne regularly to ride both trackwork and the large amount of official and unofficial trials that are held on the course. Being able to have the expertise of these jockeys both race day and in the education of young horses at trials and jump outs is a huge advantage in teaching these horses to become racing athletes.

New Zealand horses have always done themselves proud on the Australian racing stage and we are very excited to be taking over some incredibly exciting young horses who we think will be able to stand up and repeat the efforts of their stable mates, Elephant, Rhinoceros and Bifrost who were so successful over there during the Spring Carnival. We really appreciate that these owners are also so excited to join us on this journey as we join the ranks of Victorian trainers.

David will be heading to Melbourne in mid to late February with the first members of our team including Elephant who is aiming for the All Star Mile. He will be in charge of setting up the Cranbourne stable while I remain at home with the remainder of our team, many of which will be trialling in preparation for their departure. I will also be winding up our stable here and will look to head over late April/ Early May with the remainder of our horses that will be making the move and also our three daughters who are all as excited as us to take on the next chapter of our lives.

To all our owners past and present, thank you so much for each and every horse we have had that has helped us reach this far in our racing career and the support you have shown us in New Zealand. We are so excited about this new venture and would love your continued support as we make our Australian move.
