A horse that slipped through the cracks but was always firmly on our list. We couldn’t believe our luck when we secured him at such a great price.

We had Profondo on our radar from the beginning. We loved him as a racehorse and as a type, and this colt measured up on every level. He is a lovely, strong colt with an impressive walk and a fantastic attitude.

He has now been broken in and has returned to the stable for his next preparation. He has settled back into work beautifully and will progress towards his first jumpout this preparation.

He has also been nominated for the Golden Slipper and is eligible for the Karaka Million, which will be a major target if he continues to develop and progress as we hope.

A particularly handsome son of the great Deep Impact, the Arrowfield Stud-bred Profondo caught the eye from the start, selling for $1.9 million at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Profondo made an immediate impression as a spring three-year-old, winning three trials before making his debut at Kensington. Despite covering ground from a tricky barrier, he proved too strong in the 1400m maiden, with the performance impressive enough to see him start favourite in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes at just his second start.

After being narrowly beaten while still racing greenly, Profondo showed his rare ability by stepping up to 2000m and winning the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes at only his third start.

He didn’t enjoy a great deal of luck in his subsequent races and became colty as he matured, leaving us with a sense of what might have been. We are now excited to see what his progeny can achieve.

Our stable is thrilled to have secured one of his outstanding first-crop sons—a striking bay colt out of the unraced mare Monet, a daughter of Street Cry’s highly successful son Per Incanto.

There is something special about the Street Cry bloodline. He sired the extraordinary Zenyatta in the Northern Hemisphere and Winx in Australia, and his influence continues to appear in the pedigrees of elite performers. Per Incanto is also the damsire of the world’s highest-rated sprinter, Ka Ying Rising.

Among Per Incanto’s nine Group 1 winners is Railway Stakes winner Santa Monica, who is a full sister to Monet, while Jimmysstar is another of his current headline performers.

This is a wonderful Australasian family that continues to produce stakes-class horses. Monet’s Group 2-winning grandam, Balmacara, produced Magic Millions 3YO Trophy winner Jamieson Valley. Her Listed-winning half-sister Vedodara is the dam of Group 1 winner Sharvasti and Group 3 performers Bhandara and Shastri.

Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap winner Linton also comes from this prolific family, along with Macau-based dual Group 1 winner Bring Me Speed and Northern Hemisphere elite-level winners Barathea, Brocade and Gossamer.

The family also includes Group winners Semari, Tourbillon Diamond, Heatherly, Red Rioja, Free At Last, Desert Style, Zabar and Knights Realm.

This colt’s pedigree also carries a cross of the outstanding mare Best In Show—the fourth dam of Redoute’s Choice and the grandam of Per Incanto’s influential second damsire, Try My Best.

Within five generations, Redoute’s Choice and Try My Best have combined in the pedigrees of more than 100 stakes winners, including Group 1 performers Bonham, Incentivise, Giga Kick, Joliestar, Autumn Boy and Sacred Falls.

He represents an exciting opportunity to race a colt by an emerging young stallion we believe can make a significant mark.

He was vetted with an A-plus rating, and all costings include insurance, Karaka Million nomination fees, airfreight to Australia and New Zealand Stud Book clearance.
